Indicators stopped working

Post by Crack Pot »

First thing you would check is the time delay relay and a guess would be it is in the fuse box , but I dont even know where that is

Without a manual it will be very dificult to work on this car

Buy a manual then? ;)

They turn up on ebay .. it's where I bought mine ... just buy one that covers the correct year as there are at least two ... here's one for under £4 including p&p

Fuses and relays are behind the switch panel on right side of dash on early Metros. Relays are probably there too.

The manual turned up today and I had a quick read of it
In the manual it says that the fuses box is behind the switch board on the right hand side of the steering wheel
I have uploaded a page from the manual hear
https://ibb.co/fMdwmFk

There are only 4 fuses on the board and the fuses are the house hold round style not the blade car type style; surely there must be a proper mains fuse box somewhere? Anyway I checked all the fuses and they are fine. There is also 2 relays on the board but the manual dose not state what they do

Hear is the electrical diagram anyway
Thanks

The round style are proper vehicle fuses .. just older.

And four is a reasonable number for an 80s car .. my 50s car has two fuses!

Look like the indicator and hazard flasher cans ..

Could be either of them (or both!) or even the indicator switch/wiring. Do the hazards work?

So you will probably need to test all the wiring first to see if 12 volts is getting to those indicator and hazard cans .. then test (or replace) the flasher cans. Use the wiring diagram in your workshop manual to work out which wires are involved and where they connect, etc.

Quite often it is a poor, loose or corroded connection or earth. Take your time and be logical in your testing .. don't just swap the both cans as you will never know what did (or didn't) fix it.
