Losing water but no water leak
Losing water but no water leak
Has anyone else had this problem, I have been losing water but I don't have a leak. Its only losing water whilst running. I suspect hgf but its not showing any other signs of this. Thanks in advance ben
Re: Losing water but no water leak
I guess it could also be the inlet manifold gasket?

Check dipstick oil level, make sure that oil level is not going up.

Check if your oil level is rising, rough running on start up, any oil floating on top of water in expansion tank? Possibly just manifold gasket, mine went on my kv6, no wet around engine or oil in water, had me scratching my head for weeks

Done a cold bleed today, hung expansion tank off bonnet. Opened first bleed under dizzy cap, locked off. Then done second, matrix inlet pipe. Run up for 2 hours. All air out.
Refitted tank, took for run, up brecon beakons. No problem. Got home, switched off engine. Restarted, drove for one mile to local chippy. Boiled over. Full of air.
Going to try garage with vacuum bleader Monday. If that dont work, ill stick my vvc in, by the time I strip the engine, will be just as cheap, to fit a known, good engine

Re: Losing water but no water leak
Only.slight residue of something oily in expansion tank, dipstick was a little low, bottom quarter.
Air vents were nice n hot on run, 3 expansion tank hosses hot, top hose very hot, bottom hose hot but flacid. Heater matrix in, very hot, firm, but could feel air. Heater return fairly warm to hot.
Im thinking blocked heater matrix or radiator. Ive changed the pump, cambelt and thermostat.
Will an mg tf radiator fit? Ive access to a cheap one. £30

Re: Losing water but no water leak
I found 3 problems, dribling from the top hose u bend, tiny leak from the bottom left rad and the worst, thermostat housing. Idling and revving no leak. Had to sit on engine and drive up steep hill, engine under load, it was pissing out. Ive ordered a tf alloy radiator, mg zr top hose, new thermostat and housing. Should do the job
