Smoke

Post by Wibblyp »

1.8 mpi not vvc.
Jumped in car late this morning, started car with no probs accept for lots of greyish smoke from exhaust. Revved a few times, didn’t clear. Left it for an hour, again started fine but with no smoke this time. Def smoke and never happened before. Not long done head gasket and no sign of contaminants in header.

Thoughts anyone ?

Cheers

Smoke or steam?

If the car was used yesterday and left overnight the exhaust was probably lined wth condensation and starting the car on a cold morning emits a lot of steam. Once warmed up and the condensation has disapated - no more steam.

Had it been left standing for a while or is this a daily?

What colour smoke? White, blue/grey, black?

It’s my daily. Had only been sat overnight. White with a hint of grey maybe.
On the drive home the previous day I thought I detected a brief smell of oil but this vanished as quickly as I noticed it.
Think I’m going to put it down to “ one of those things “. Ignore it and if it happens again do a pressure test on each cylinder.
