Ed's '91 K-Series Metro 1.1 C

Post by _edwestby »

Hi everyone, today I have become the happiest person in the world as I've just bought my first car and first Metro! Just need to pass my test now...

It's a Rover Metro 1.1 C registered on 27th August 1991. It has three doors and is Diamond White, I think.
It has the metal rear bumper and the rare Rover centre hubcaps with a 1118cc carb'd K-Series mated to a 4-Speed box.
The only modifications from factory spec are an immobiliser/alarm that isn't currently hooked up, as well as an up-rated Sony head unit and new speakers.

I picked it up for £1250, and it's in flipping good condition, having passed its MOT less than 3 weeks ago with no advisories.

Had little 'Melvin' 15 months now and got another clean MOT in March 2018 after a new wheel bearing, and has been to a number of shows, including POL in April. After attending the BMC/Leyland Day at Gaydon, he decided to wee all over the M40, failed thermostat! All done now though and the only other things I've done include lots of polishing!

Just got some pictures of the Metro Owners' Club stand and some other BL tat at Gaydon for the BMC/Leyland day on 1st July...

The only sorrow is the small matter of a stuck thermostat, some steam, and a puddle on the M40 about 3 hours from home!

Anyway...

A Lot of nice cars among that tat :-) i would love to have a Dolomite. Sorry to hear about your steam problem. Did you fix it without needing a new headgasket?

Went to pull over on the hard shoulder as the temp was rising wayyyy too high and we were about to lose the shoulder. As we pulled off the carriageway some steam came out and the coolant emptied itself. To be honest, my dad and I had been a bit too careless, as the show was 3 hours from home and even in the morning we could tell that the thermostat was getting stuck. On the way home, it was 30 degrees C and the car had enough. Luckily, I was right and the thermostat was faulty. Got taken home and when loading/unloading the engine was fine, no mayo in the oil and since then he has behaved himself perfectly!
In 2015 he had a new gasket and everything was cleaned, new piston rings etc. by the previous owner by MG Rover Mobile Mechanics so he's looking okay for now!
